Review Management

Monitoring, responding to, and generating online reviews across Google, Yelp, and similar platforms — building trust, improving local SEO, and surfacing customer feedback.

Review management is the practice of actively monitoring online reviews across platforms (Google Business Profile, Yelp, Facebook, Trustpilot, and others), responding to both positive and negative feedback, and implementing strategies to encourage satisfied customers to leave reviews. For local businesses like gyms and fitness studios, online reviews are one of the most influential factors in a prospect’s decision to visit — and one of the strongest signals Google uses to rank businesses in local search.

The Business Impact of Reviews

Studies consistently show that the majority of consumers read online reviews before visiting a local business, and that most trust reviews as much as personal recommendations. A business with 50 reviews averaging 4.2 stars will consistently outperform one with 8 reviews averaging 4.8 stars in local search and conversion — because volume and recency matter as much as the score. A single unanswered negative review can cost you disproportionate business if it is the first or most prominent result a prospect sees.

Responding to Reviews

Responding to all reviews — not just negative ones — signals to both prospects and search algorithms that your business is actively managed and customer-focused. For negative reviews, the response should: acknowledge the issue without being defensive, apologize genuinely, explain what you are doing to address it, and offer to continue the conversation offline. For positive reviews, a brief, warm thank-you is sufficient. Never copy-paste the same response across multiple reviews.

Generating More Reviews

The most effective way to increase review volume is simply to ask at the right moment — immediately after a positive experience, while the customer’s satisfaction is highest. Automated SMS and email campaigns triggered after a customer’s visit or purchase, with a direct link to your Google or Yelp review page, are the most scalable approach. Businesses that implement an automated review request workflow typically see 3–5x more reviews within the first 90 days.
